Enhancing Tuition Options and Efficiency
Nelnet Campus Commerce helped KCKCC solve a few challenges, including:
1) International Payments
KCKCC needed a solution for offering international students more accessible options to pay tuition and fees in their home currency.
Previously, the college took international payments over the phone, often across time zones and language barriers. Today, that entire process happens securely online with multi-language support.
“KCKCC reached out to me in the middle of 2023, and they had a specific question about trying to find some sort of solution for taking international deposits,” said Nelnet Campus Commerce Business Development Consultant Jon Rickard. “So we talked to them about a solution that we thought would move that process online, would offer language support, and also be available 24/7.”

2) Past-Due Payments
The college also wanted to give students with past-due balances more options for settling their accounts so they could continue their education.
By implementing Nelnet’s Past Due Payment Plans, the college saw more students re-engage and catch up on their overdue payments. This supported long-term success for those students and benefited the institution’s bottom line.
Director of Business and Auxiliary Services Jennifer Keffer noted, “Nelnet has given us an opportunity to put people in a past due plan so that they can pay off a balance and return to school. And that is huge.”

3) Payment Efficiency
KCKCC sought to simplify tedious billing and payment processes for their staff so they could spend more time focusing on supporting students.
Vice President of Finance and Operations, Patrick Schulte, spoke about the impact KCKCC’s partnership with Nelnet Campus Commerce has on his team. “Nelnet has helped my team truly sleep at night,” he said. “Taking a look at getting the information out in front of students and helping them to have access to the information they need in order to reconcile their student billing has been a key piece.”

The Power of Partnership
This kind of transformation doesn’t happen through a transactional relationship. It happens through trust, collaboration, and the shared belief that doing what’s right for students is always worth it.
Nelnet Campus Commerce Customer Success Consultant, Erica Klemsz, works closely with the KCKCC staff to support their needs and help them solve challenges. When asked about the partnership with KCKCC, she said, “Because they're such a vocal partner with us and bring pain points to us to try to help solve, it helps us identify a way to offer a path for them to be able to target an option for students that wouldn't have otherwise had a plan option with us.”
KCKCC is more than a customer for Nelnet Campus Commerce; they’re a co-creator. Their feedback helps shape new tools and processes that benefit not only their students and staff but also other institutions.
