Describe your work experience with Nelnet prior to this role.
I started my career at Nelnet eight years ago, in the Payer and Applicant Services division of Nelnet Business Services. From there, I went on to spend a few years on the Client Services team at Nelnet Payment Services. Both of these roles helped me to build a variety of experience in our Higher Education market, giving me the knowledge to join the Nelnet Campus Commerce team as a Project Manager. During my tenure as a Project Manager, I learned a great deal about our student information system partnerships and their technology, and pursued the opportunity to become a Product Owner for our ERP integration solutions.
What do you enjoy about working in the higher education industry?
I enjoy the opportunity to make things work for our customers. The combination of our products and services, and their integration into a student information system, is complex and unique for every institution. I want to be a part of finding the solutions our clients need.
What interested you in the position of Product Owner?
I wanted the chance to contribute to the success of our product vision and the ability to bring exposure to our ERP integration services while creating an environment where internal and external stakeholders both feel like a collaborative partner.
List three unique characteristics you bring to this position.
I have been fortunate enough to build experience in three of the primary business sectors at Nelnet Business Services. All of my experience puts me in a unique position to listen to our customers and discuss solutions for a wide range of business needs. I pride myself on patience and a willingness to break down information in a way that ensures a clear and confident understanding between myself and the Project Team.
How will you collaborate with clients to identify new product features?
When it comes to ERP integration, it’s important to keep cross-functional collaboration in focus, knowing that the effects of change will impact a wide range of end users.
What motivates you to work hard?
I’m motivated by my goal of building a reputation of reliability and dedication in my profession. I maintain a strong sense of duty that helps define my identity in what I do.
Share with us a valuable piece of advice that someone has given you.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is today.” This proverb is a reminder to start the hard work now and that some of the large personal objectives that have passed me by are still achievable.
Outside of work, do you have any activities or hobbies that you enjoy?
I like to spend time at home with my family. Some of my favorite hobbies include: bike riding, fishing, and golf. I’m also a computer and audio hobbyist, so I am often one click away from buying a piece of tech that I probably don’t need.
