Before coming to Nelnet Campus Commerce, what are some of the highlights of your career?
Before joining Nelnet Campus Commerce, my career has been marked by significant achievements and remarkable collaborations. At the forefront of education technology sales, I’ve excelled in orchestrating and finalizing multi-million-dollar deals with leading and extensive higher education institutions globally. However, the true highlights for me have always been the incredible individuals I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. These relationships have been both enriching and inspiring, allowing me to gain invaluable knowledge and build lasting friendships. My aspiration has always been to contribute as much in wisdom, dedication, and vitality to those around me as I have been fortunate to receive.
What do you enjoy about working in the higher education industry?
Working in the higher education industry is profoundly rewarding for several reasons. The mission and vision of higher education—broadly nurturing young minds towards becoming refined intellectuals and contributors to a knowledge-based economy—are deeply compelling. It’s the kind of purpose that easily inspires passion. Additionally, the vibrant energy and excitement that permeate every college campus I’ve visited transform even routine campus visits into enjoyable experiences. The atmosphere is electrifying, reminding me of the impactful work we’re doing in shaping future generations.
What interested you in the role of Account Executive?
The role of Account Executive at Nelnet attracted me for its unique position at the crossroads of finance technology and education technology. This opportunity allows me to leverage my extensive experience in higher education while exploring the dynamic and evolving fin-tech/ed-tech landscape. I am particularly excited about the prospect of continuing to learn about a new industry while engaging with familiar customers, blending the best of both worlds in a way that promises growth and new challenges.
What are you looking forward to most as you start in your new position?
I am most excited about the opportunity to demonstrate my value as a key member of the team. I am eager to contribute to our collective goals and excel in my role, leveraging my skills and dedication to make a substantial impact.
What techniques help you stay organized and focused?
To stay organized and focused, I adopt a mindset of extreme ownership over my accounts, work, and actions. This principle of accountability, regardless of success or failure, forms the cornerstone of my approach. By being my own harshest critic and most fervent supporter, I navigate challenges with focus and resilience.
Is there something new you'd like to learn this year, and why?
In addition to mastering everything necessary to excel in my role at Nelnet, I am eager to expand my knowledge in automotive maintenance and repair.
Share with us a valuable piece of advice that someone has given you.
If you intend to further your career at a company or within an industry, get as far away from end-users as possible while still understanding them, their needs, and concerns.
What's the most memorable vacation you've ever taken?
In my adult life, I have taken one vacation. On that trip, I happily celebrated my 10-year anniversary with my girlfriend. We went to Jamaica, and it was bliss (also, my favorite food is Jamaican jerk chicken, which I delightfully gorged myself on throughout the trip).
Outside of work, do you have any activities or hobbies that you enjoy?
- I enjoy the process of travel via different mediums; I am licensed to operate almost any conventional vehicle, air, land, or sea.
- I enjoy creating, building, and painting tiny toy soldiers.
- I spend a lot of time walking and enjoying nature.
- I spend a tremendous amount of time snuggling with my two basset hounds, Tugboat and Delilah.
